Meet Captain Justin Coghlan
I’m Captain Justin Coghlan, owner and fishing guide at Clean Fun Fishing. I offer private inshore fishing charters throughout the Texas Coastal Bend, including Rockport, Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, Ingleside, Corpus Christi Bay, Aransas Bay, and surrounding waters. I enjoy fishing with everyone from experienced anglers to complete beginners, families, and kids, and I take pride in teaching people how to fish while providing a fun and comfortable day on the water.
My Story: Faith, Sobriety & Fishing
My path to becoming a fishing guide wasn’t a straight one. I struggled with addiction for many years, and in 2017 I made the decision to change my life and get sober. With the help of God, my family, and a lot of determination, I began rebuilding my life one day at a time.
Fishing became a big part of that new life. What started as something I loved to do grew into a passion for helping other people experience the outdoors and enjoy time on the water. I began sharing fishing videos on YouTube, teaching the techniques I had learned and showing people how to catch fish along the Texas coast.
My sobriety is also where the name Clean Fun Fishing came from. I wanted the name of my business to represent the new direction of my life and the kind of experience I wanted to provide for others: clean, positive, family-friendly fun on the water.
Over time, that passion led me to earn my U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License and start Clean Fun Fishing. Today, I get to make a living doing something I truly enjoy while meeting people from all over and helping families, kids, beginners, and experienced anglers make memories on the water.
Clean Fun Fishing is about more than catching fish. My goal is to provide a positive, family-friendly experience where people can relax, learn, have fun, and hopefully leave with some great fishing memories.
Fishing the Texas Coastal Bend
I spend my time on the water fishing the bays and inshore waters throughout the Texas Coastal Bend, including Rockport, Aransas Pass, Port Aransas, Ingleside, Corpus Christi Bay, Aransas Bay, and surrounding areas. Over the years, I’ve learned how changing tides, weather, water conditions, and seasons affect where the fish are and how they feed.
Depending on the time of year and conditions, we target redfish, speckled trout, black drum, and mangrove snapper while fishing grass flats, oyster reefs, shorelines, channels, and other productive inshore areas. I use a variety of techniques, including live bait, artificial lures, drifting, and bottom fishing.
One of my favorite parts of guiding is teaching. I don’t just want customers to catch fish. I enjoy explaining what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and helping people learn techniques they can use the next time they go fishing on their own.
