Port Aransas Fishing Report: Redfish and Speckled Trout Bite Improving

2 min read

This Port Aransas fishing report covers an improving redfish and speckled trout bite as cooler fall weather starts changing the fishing patterns. Fishing around Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Ingleside and Corpus Christi Bay continues to improve as we move farther into fall. I’m locating redfish and speckled trout better and better, and the cooler water following these cold fronts is starting to change the way I’m fishing.

Redfish Are Showing Up Better

Redfish have been getting easier to locate, and one of my favorite ways to target them right now is with a 1/4-ounce gold spoon.

Gold spoons are great for covering water when I’m looking for redfish. I can work them across grass, along shorelines and around areas where bait is moving until I find feeding fish.

Live shrimp under a popping cork is also producing redfish and continues to be one of the most dependable setups when I have customers on the boat.

Speckled Trout Fishing Is Improving

I’m also finding speckled trout more consistently around Port Aransas and the surrounding bays.

For trout, I’ve been using popping corks with shrimp-style artificial lures. The cork helps cover water and draw attention to the lure while the shrimp presentation gives the trout something natural-looking to strike.

Live shrimp under a cork is another excellent option. It works for trout, redfish, black drum and several other inshore species, which makes it a great setup when we’re fishing areas holding a mixed bag of fish.

Port Aransas Fishing Report: Topwater Bite Is Getting Better

One of the changes I’m starting to see is a better early-morning topwater bite.

As these cold fronts move through and water temperatures begin cooling, topwater fishing is becoming a better option first thing in the morning. I’ll continue watching this pattern as fall progresses and the water cools further.

There’s nothing quite like watching a redfish or speckled trout come up and hit a topwater lure.

Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Ingleside and Corpus Christi Bay Fishing

I fish several areas throughout the Coastal Bend, including Port Aransas, Aransas Pass, Ingleside and Corpus Christi Bay. Where I fish on a particular trip depends on the weather, wind, water conditions and where I’m finding the better bite.

Right now, having several techniques ready is important. I can cover water with gold spoons for redfish, work popping corks and shrimp lures for trout, throw top waters early in the morning, or switch to live shrimp under a cork when that is producing better.
