Inshore Mangrove Snapper Fishing on the Texas Coastal Bend
The mangrove snapper bite continues to produce some great inshore fishing along the Texas Coastal Bend. On this trip, we put together a nice box of mangrove snapper and enjoyed another good morning on the water. Mangrove snapper have become one of my favorite fish to target with customers. They fight hard for their size, they can provide plenty of action when you get on a good bite, and they are excellent table fare.
A Good Morning of Inshore Mangrove Snapper Fishing
We started the morning early and headed out looking for active fish. One of the best parts about fishing this area is that every trip can be a little different. Conditions, tides and fish movement determine where we go and how we approach the day. Once we found the mangrove snapper, the action made for a fun morning. We were able to put a solid group of fish on the cleaning table and send another customer home with fresh fish and some good memories from the Texas coast.
Mangrove Snapper Along the Texas Coast
Mangrove snapper are sometimes associated with offshore fishing, but they can also provide excellent inshore action around the Coastal Bend. Structure is an important part of finding these fish. Depending on the conditions, mangrove snapper can be found around channels, rocks, pilings and other structure that provides current, cover and an opportunity to feed. They can also be surprisingly strong fish. Even the smaller snapper can make a hard run toward structure as soon as they are hooked, which makes them a lot of fun on inshore tackle.

An early morning on the Texas coast can be worth the trip before the first fish ever hits the deck. Sunrises over the water, ships moving through the channels and the scenery around the Coastal Bend are all part of the experience. Some mornings you get a view like this one before getting down to the business of catching fish.
