Port Aransas, Ingleside & Corpus Christi Bay Fishing Report: Mangrove Snapper & Black Drum

The mangrove snapper and black drum bite has been producing some good fishing lately around Port Aransas, Ingleside, and Corpus Christi Bay. Live shrimp has been the key bait, with most of our fish coming from deeper channels, structure, and areas with good moving water.
Mangrove Snapper Fishing Around Port Aransas and Ingleside
Mangrove snapper continue to be a great target throughout the Port Aransas and Ingleside area. We have been finding them around structure, deeper water, channel edges, and areas where current pushes bait through.
Live shrimp has been our go-to bait. A Carolina rig has been working well for getting the shrimp down near the bottom and keeping the bait in the strike zone.
Mangrove snapper can be aggressive, but they are also quick. Once you feel the bite, you need to get them away from structure before they have a chance to break you off.
Black Drum Fishing in Corpus Christi Bay
Black drum have also been mixed into the bite throughout Corpus Christi Bay and the surrounding waters near Ingleside and Port Aransas.
Live shrimp fished near the bottom has been producing the majority of our drum. We have been concentrating on deeper water, channels, drop-offs, and areas where moving water concentrates bait.
Black drum are a great fish for anglers of all experience levels. They pull hard and can make for some exciting fishing, especially for kids and first-time anglers.
Live Shrimp on a Carolina Rig
One of the most consistent setups right now has been a simple Carolina rig with live shrimp.
This setup allows us to keep the bait close to the bottom while still allowing the shrimp to move naturally. Depending on the current and depth, we adjust the amount of weight to keep the bait where the fish are feeding.
The same setup can produce mangrove snapper, black drum, redfish, and speckled trout, making it a great option when several species are feeding in the same area.

Fishing conditions can change quickly along the Texas Coastal Bend. Wind, tides, water clarity, bait movement, and temperature all play a part in deciding where we fish each day.
Instead of staying in one location regardless of conditions, I focus on the areas that give us the best opportunity to catch fish that day. Depending on the bite, that could mean fishing around Port Aransas, launching from Ingleside, or working different areas throughout Corpus Christi Bay and the surrounding waters.
